Late night talk show host David Letterman is counting down to his final show next week.

Some of his favorite and most notable guests are returning to say goodbye — including Howard Stern.

Stern has appeared on Letterman’s show nearly 20 times. Letterman booked Stern on his show before Stern found success in radio syndication.

“Is this goodbye? Is this our final time together?” Stern asked Letterman during the taping of the show on Monday.

“No. What are you going to do?” Letterman asked while trying to get away from Stern.

“Come here. Come here,” Stern continued to say.

That’s when Letterman grabbed Stern’s hand and kissed it.

That wasn’t enough for Stern. He urged Letterman to come in for a hug — but then puckered his lips and tried to kiss him as Letterman threw to a commercial break.

Howard Stern possible replacement for David Letterman?

david letterman wcqjDavid Letterman announced Thursday he plans to retire next year. Howard Stern is just one of the names industry spectators are floating around as a possible replacement for David Letterman.

At least for now though, the longtime radio personality says of the idea, “My plate is full.”

Stern addressed the late-night TV talk show host’s retirement announcement while arriving in New York on Friday for “America’s Got Talent” auditions. Stern is one of the judges on the show.

The 60-year-old stressed Letterman’s impact on late-night TV, saying he’s sad to see Letterman leave. Stern said he enjoyed his appearances on the “Late Show with David Letterman.”

“I’ve been doing the show for years and years and I’ve had so many funny, great times with him that, you know, it’ll be weird not to have him there.”

Stern also said there are few people in show biz whose opinion matters to him, and Letterman is one.

One of Stern’s fellow “America’s Got Talent” judges, Heidi Klum, supports the idea of Stern taking over for Letterman, saying he’d be perfect.

“Howard is very special, you know? He gets right to the chase. He’s not scared of anything, and I like that about him. He gets things out of people. Sometimes people don’t even want to like say certain things, and he gets it out of them.”

Jay Leno Funniest Comedian Ever?

While famous David Letterman fans such as Howard Stern and Jimmy Kimmel publicly air their hatred for Jay Leno, the CBS late-night legend takes a softer approach in his upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“Jay and I were friends — we were always friends, before all of this happened,” he says, addressing the feud in a teaser from his Oprah’s Next Chapter sit-down airing Jan. 6 on OWN.

“I’ve never met anyone quite like Jay. And I will say, and I’m happy to say, I think he’s the funniest guy I’ve ever known,” Letterman adds. “Just flat out. If you go and see him do his nightclub act — just the funniest, the smartest, wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic. Therefore, the fact that he is maybe the most insecure person I have ever known — I could never reconcile that.”

In the episode, Letterman also addresses his struggle with depression and the 2009 scandal that revealed his Late Show affairs.
