Carnie Wilson was recently interviewed on The Talk. She spoke about her prior appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 1999, just nine weeks after she’d undergone gastric bypass surgery and recently getting engaged to her now-husband Rob Bonfiglio. While backstage, Bababooey motioned to her to step to a certain spot and wait for Stern to come out. Unbeknownst to Wilson, the spot she was stepping on was actually a scale.
“When I walked in, the producer, Gary, said, ‘Step over here and wait for Howard.’ Well, I didn’t know this, but I was stepping on a scale. And I looked up and in red, big numbers, 233 lbs. showed up on this thing. And I went, ‘Wait a minute?’ and I looked down, and all I could think was, ‘Howard, ready to shame me?’ They purposely did it,” Wilson said.
She says when she and her husband appeared on the show, Stern shamed her with comments like asking her husband why he would marry someone her size. “He loves to fat-shame,” Wilson said, “It’s a joke to him, but it wasn’t to me. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.”
During her appearance on the show, Wilson kept her composure by reminding herself that she has the undying love and support of her husband, but admitted on The Talk that she was devastated afterwards.
