On The Howard Stern Show Tuesday morning the shock jock discussed his disgust at Julie Chen’s decision to stick by her disgraced husband, former CBS President Les Moonves who has been accused of sexual predation. The latest reports of sexual misconduct in the New Yorker allege that Moonves forced women to perform oral sex on him and that he threatened women with physical violence and intimidation. He also exposed himself without consent, according to the report.
“I lived this,” Robin Quivers who is now 66, said. “Seeing someone stand by their man after learning they had molested their daughter. Where do you think I grew up?”
Stern replied: “Oh that’s right, that’s your life story. You witnessed that. You went to your mom and told her ‘mom, dad molested me.’”
“Telling her as an adult, she still didn’t leave. She got upset. I was probably in my thirties,” Quivers explained. “What the deal was I wasn’t speaking to them. And she said ‘okay I want to know why.’ And I told her.”
“We were only on letter writing terms. So I wrote down what happened. I wrote that I was 11-years-old, ‘you used to go shopping, and then dad you know would try to have his way with me.’”
Stern asked Robin if she wrote her mom back.
“Yeah, she said she was so angry at him, but clearly not enough to leave him,” Quivers responded. “I was completely explicit. And I told her the anguish and horror it was for me.”
“That’s why I kept my mouth shut because even then I knew it would get warped. Because one day she did accuse me of ‘colluding with my father — that we got together and kept something from her.’ Can you imagine me having to deal with that when I was 11.”
“For a very long time, I kept the secret, and it controlled my life,” Quivers wrote. “Once I spoke about it, got the help and support I needed, it changed me. I was freed to be happy, successful. It wasn’t gonna happen while I was under the effects of abuse. I want people to know you don’t have to be a permanent victim.”
“It was like a nuclear explosion going off in my life, destroying everything,” she recalled of the alleged abuse. “The things I thought I knew about the world were all wrong. The things I thought I knew about myself were wrong, too. I was left with nothing, and in the wake of this nothing, I had to figure out how to make myself safe again.”
Are you going to go back on Howard to promote the book?
I don’t know. I haven’t set foot in there. Howard is afraid he’s gonna say the wrong thing and set me off. He’s like, “God forbid something happens.” What happened was real intense. The times I’ve talked to him, he’s been real supportive. He’s happy for me that I’m back on track and doing better, but actually being on the show . . . He’s afraid something might happen. I’m not saying it won’t happen. Gary [Dell’Abate] has the book. He’s reading the book . . . Look, if he does, he does. I’m not going to put any pressure on him because the guy has done everything for me, and he’s just been amazing. But if he feels it’s too intense and too risky to do it, that’s gonna be his decision. And that’s fine. I told the book company not to press him at all.
I think he got freaked out. Howard didn’t how bad you were and he believed all your lies, and then he saw the truth and it shattered him.
Right. He was like, “You need professional help.” And he was right, of course. And I was working there when it happened. He’s thinking, “What if he goes back and something triggers something?”
Howard said recently on the show that you saw him at the hospital when you both visited Robin at the same time.
Yeah. I saw him there. We talked for an hour. And it was just me, him and Robin for a while. We laughed like old times, like we were on the air. It was the day after Robin’s big operation and she was in great spirits. She look great. I told her she was just so confident and she really is such a strong person. But we were goofing around with her like everything was fine. We laughed like crazy.
At the end, he gave me a big hug and he said, “Congrats on the show.” I said “Thanks” and “I’ll talk to you soon” or whatever. And then I gave him a big hug. That was it, and I talked to Robin for an hour after that. I sat with her, and if she was scared about what was going to happen, she didn’t let me see. It seems like she got through it, which is great.
It’s weird how time rolls on. Howard is gonna be 60. Bruce Springsteen is almost 65 and time is rolling, man. It’s daunting to think that one day that show might not be around. But I don’t think Howard wants to slow down. I know that money isn’t an issue for Howard. He likes to be relevant, hence the America’s Got Talent thing. And he’s good at it. I think he’s gearing up for another big situation because Howard TV is going away, whether it’s a web thing or another more traditional-type talk show. I don’t know. I would love to see what kind of web presence he would have.
You wrote in the book that after your suicide attempt, you held out some hope you’d return to the show at some point.
Sure. In my head I said, “Well, maybe I can still make this work again. Maybe I’m not so ready to move on.” But then I really thought about it. I thought about the position I put them in. I said to myself, “Well, oK, that’s probably not going to work.” But there was definitely a time where I said to myself, “I can do this again.” Then I said to myself, “OK, well, now what?” And my agents and managers didn’t abandon me. They were there and they said, “OK. We’ll just try to find a gig for you.” And then I got a call from Nick DiPaolo. He said that DirecTV was a fan of his and mine and wanted to maybe do this show. And I said, “Oh my God. All right. Let’s get right back on the horse.” And we did a test show and in a few months we had a deal.
Robin opened up to Extra host Beth Stern, about how Howard Stern helped her through tough times. “It was rough for all of us because right away he took it to heart and I think he was more concerned for me than I was concerned myself.”
Beth chimed in, “He was up night after night throughout your whole ordeal, I was comforting him, you are our family, he loves you so much.”
Robin, “We love each other, we went on our business, it never had to be expressed like that, there was a certain point he took over.”
Quivers recently dedicated her book, “The Vegucation of Robin,” to Howard, concluding, “He’s the reason I’m alive.”
Radio personality and Howard Sterns‘s right hand Robin Quivers just announced the reason she took some time off of the radio show was because she was battling cancer for the past year.
Quivers says she has been undergoing cancer treatment for the better part of a year. She has undergone chemotherapy and other cancer removal procedures. Her doctors say the chemotherapy and other procedures were a success because she is currently cancer free.
The news was revealed in a heartwarming segment on “The Howard Stern Show.” Stern told his Sirius XM satellite radio audience that he feared Quivers wouldn’t return to the show and that he didn’t think she would make it through chemotherapy alive. “I gotta be honest, I thought she was a goner.”
Howard Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers says she is undergoing tests to determine whether or not she has cancer.
Quivers made a disturbing discovery this weekend while she was attending a wedding in Pittsburgh. She woke up in the middle of the night and found that she was completely unable to urinate. After undergoing a CAT scan, doctors found a grapefruit-sized growth pressing on her bladder that may or may not be cancerous.
Quivers showed up for work at Sirius XM Monday morning wearing a catheter because of the condition, joking: “So, if you see me–I’m peeing.”
Quivers was positive, but matter-of-fact about the prospects:
“It could be something not so bad. It could be really bad….Hopefully it’s something that can just be cut out.”
Quivers states that she has had non-cancerous fibroid tumors in the past, and is hoping for the same diagnosis this time. Quivers has been Stern’s on-air partner for more than thirty years, and the King of All Media balked at the idea of ever being on air without her.
“I’ll kill you if you have cancer,” joked Stern. “Think of me for once. You’ll be dead and I’ll still have to do the show.”
Howard had Jon Leiberman come in with his news preview. Jon said they have breaking news about Scott the Engineer. He said that Scott may be playing his son’s band’s music from inside his studio so people will ask what band it is. Scott has an intern by the name of Raphia, or Fiah, and she was on the intern show talking about how this weird music would be on in Scott’s studio.
Jon said that Scott is very upset about this whole thing. Gary said that Scott hasn’t gotten along with his last 3 or 4 interns. Howard said the interns are there to observe and help out a little bit. He said he thinks Scott wants them to do his job. Jon said that Scott’s son was very angry and he said that the intern shouldn’t worry about Scott’s music and she should just get Scott’s coffee like she’s supposed to.
Howard played the audio of Fiah talking about Scott’s music on the intern show. Howard said he wanted to talk to Fiah about this. Howard had her and Scott come in. Howard said he doesn’t want Fiah to have an uncomfortable thing with Scott. Fiah said that she’s trying to step into Scott’s shoes for a second. He said that it was probably the personal attack on his son’s music that got to him. Howard told Fiah that she didn’t do anything wrong. Fiah said that he asked about the music but Scott didn’t answer him about it so he should have known it was something he shouldn’t ask about. Jon said that Fiah was forced to apologize too. Fiah said he wasn’t forced. He said she did apologize though.
Howard asked Scott what’s going on. Scott said he didn’t force her to apologize. Scott said he’s not going to get into it with Fiah but he has a problem with Steve Brandano. Howard said she did hear his son’s music being played. Howard asked if it was his son’s music. Scott said that he told her not to worry about the music that’s playing in there. He said it could be music he’s pulling for Fred.
Steve Brandano came in and said that he assumes that it’s his son’s music if he doesn’t say what it is. Scott said he hasn’t played his son’s music in there in 3 years. He said that Fiah didn’t know what music it was he was playing in there. She assumed what it was. Scott said he told her she didn’t have to worry about it.
Howard asked Scott if this is secret music. Scott said that it’s not but people have a problem with the music he listens to in there. Fiah said she didn’t even assume what it was. Howard asked if Fiah is uncomfortable going on the intern show now that this has happened. Howard said that she was right about whose music it was and he has no reason to be so upset.
Steve Brandano said that this is making her feel bad and that’s not right. Scott said that she ripped his son’s music and that’s not right. Howard said she didn’t like the music and that’s fine. Scott said he’s not saying anything to anybody so he’s not sure why this is such a big deal.
Fiah said that Scott didn’t say anything to her but it was uncomfortable in there. Scott said he was uncomfortable too. He said that he doesn’t play his son’s music for anyone. He said he doesn’t play it 24/7 in there like people think he does either. He said he didn’t want anyone to hear it. He said it was 4:30 in the morning when he played it. He said he works on a lot of music for the show and he doesn’t crank it.
Howard asked why Scott needs an intern anyway. Scott said he has a lot of stuff that he needs done. Fiah said she hits record on a CD player and things like that. It’s just stuff that Scott is too busy to do. Howard laughed when he heard she hits a record button. Howard said that Scott has better things to do than hit a record button. Fiah said she’s learned a lot from Scott. She said this is the only thing that’s happened between them that was volatile. She said that she’s sorry this all happened. She said she shouldn’t have made the comment.
Howard asked Fiah to report back to him if she hears Scott playing that music again. Scott said that she won’t know when he’s playing that music.
Howard asked Fiah about her name and if that’s the right way to say it. She said that’s right. She said that her mother was Nation of Islam. Howard said his mother was too. That’s why she kept him in a black neighborhood. Fiah told Howard that she’s a big, black lesbian. Howard said she has a crush on Robin too. Fiah said Robin is a very attractive woman. She said that she’s not sure how nothing has happened between Howard and Robin. Howard said maybe something has. Fiah said that she’s just assuming once again.
Howard asked Fia if she was going to buy Robin a Valentine’s day gift. Fia said she did think about it. She said that she might get her some vegan chocolates or something like that. Howard said Robin always has admirers. Robin said she wishes that Scott would stop making his interns uncomfortable.
Howard asked Fiah if she could turn Robin if she gave her an hour. Fiah said she wouldn’t even need the full hour. she’d just need 15-20 minutes. Howard asked if she has a girlfriend. Fiah said she doesn’t at the moment. Howard asked Robin if she’d try it. Robin said she will not. Howard asked if she’s turned any straight women. Fiah said she has. Howard said that she’s hurting Fiah’s feelings and she should let her try at least.
Robin said she was getting uncomfortable. Jon said that Fiah hasn’t taken her eyes off of Robin the whole time. He said he was going to back up.
Howard asked how you turn a woman. Fiah said that you can feel the vibe. She said that she’s not sure if Robin has that vibe. She said she sees Robin for 10 seconds a day and that’s it. She’s not sure if she has that vibe. Howard said he can turn a woman against him in 15-20 minutes. He said he can’t turn them on.
Howard asked Fiah what she would do to Robin. Fiah told Howard some of the stuff she’d do and how she’d turn Robin. Fred played some audio of Robin making sex sounds and then played Roger Alan Wade’s ”Sweet Poon Tang” song as they were talking about that.
Howard said maybe they can make that happen. He told Robin not to pass anything up and take love any way she can get it. Howard asked Fiah if she’s gold star. She said she’s not. She has been with dudes. She said she’s more like a bronze star lesbian. Howard asked Fiah if she’s had only bad experiences. Fiah said that she has had some good ones. She said that anyone can make you cum.
Howard let Fiah go after that. Howard said Robin is a temptress. Robin said that was a surprise. Jon said that’s breaking news right there. Howard said he feels like everyone is into Robin in some way. He said it’s every minute with her. She walks around teasing everyone. Howard said she’s magic. Sweet, sweet magic. Howard said that’s a great compliment when someone says they’re into you like that.
Jon got to some more news and said that Lisa G has a ”R.I.P.” not on a picture of Benjy. Howard said he hard a report about Lisa and how Dr. Drew was saying that this isn’t about Benjy. Jon said that Drew has been following this very closely. He said that Drew was applauding Lisa for voicing her opinion about this whole thing. Howard said Drew had an explanation for what she’s doing. Jon said that it’s not about her being in love but she’s protecting him as a friend. Howard said he doesn’t give a fuck about Benjy and he’s not going to protect him.
Benjy said that Drew met Lisa in person and he said that she actually is in love with him. Jon said he was about to say that. He said that Drew thinks that Lisa has some kind of emotional attachment to him. Jon said that she may not be in love with him but she does have an emotional attachment to him. Howard said he never would have thought she’d be into Benjy. Jon said that they have the photo that they could tweet out. He said she’s very attached to Benjy. Howard said he had no idea she was that into Benjy. He asked Benjy if he was complimented. Benjy said he is in a way but he doesn’t like what she’s said about his girlfriend.
Jon said he wishes that they had a live feed from inside Scott’s studio. He said he’d like to know what’s going on in there. Robin said she had no idea that Fia was that into her.
Jon said Lisa thinks that Benjy has changed and that’s what the ”R.I.P.” note is about. Benjy said he’s not going to be nice to someone who is saying such mean things about his girlfriend. Howard said he has been throwing off some bad vibes to people lately. He said he was doing that at the Christmas party. Howard said he wanted to talk to Lisa about this.
Lisa came in and said that she’s not in love with Benjy. She said that he’s completely changed. Howard said that she’s way into this. Lisa said she took the ”RIP” down. She said that Benjy has changed because he was so obsessed with the whole Elisa thing. She sad that he’s completely changed. She said that he never talks to them anymore and he never takes his hat off anymore. She said that she saw Benjy take his hat off and Elisa telling him to put it back on. Benjy said he has the hat off 90 percent of the time he’s at home. Benjy said all he did was grow a beard. Lisa said that he’s wearing platform sneakers and he’s got the beard and all of this.
Howard said Lisa is telling Benjy how he changed and he’s not listening. Benjy said he’s doing what he wants. He said he likes being this person. Howard said he thinks Lisa is obsessed with him. Lisa said she’s not. Howard said he thinks that if Benjy said he was in love with her then she’d go out with him. Lisa said she thinks of him as a friend. She said that if this ends she won’t tell him ”I told you so.” She said that she was taken off the story because she was so close to this.
Lisa said that Benjy has changed. Benjy said the only reason he stopped talking to her after she said mean things about his girlfriend. Lisa said it was happening before that. She said all she said was that he was trying to be a hero to this girl. Benjy said she said that he was being a hero for her non-career. Benjy tried talking to her but Howard cut him off so he could get out of that.
Jon said that they talk about this in the news room as soon as they get there. Jon said it starts right up at 5:20am. Howard said he wants to get back to Robin and Fiah. Robin said there is no her and Fiah.
Jon said they have a story about Bobo getting an old piece of foam from the old studio. He said they’re trying to find out who gave it to Bobo but Bobo isn’t giving up his sources.
Jon said that Scott is going to be bowling later this month and he will have to miss a block party gig if he gets into the finals. Jon said that’s pissing off some of the guys in the Block Party shows. Jon said that they’re upset with Scott because they have to go to Toronto and Scott doesn’t have a passport or enhanced license. He said Scott is unwilling to pay for either.
Howard said Jon is very in touch with what’s going on there. They had to go to break after that.
Howard took a call from a guy who said Robin is wrong about this Ayahuasca thing not being a Psychadellic thing. Robin said that it’s not meant to be used for just Psychadellic. The caller said that it’s the most potent Psychadellic on the planet. Howard said this is a way of taking drugs for people who don’t take drugs.
Robin said that she thought that this could help her out with her depression. Robin said she’s not depressed now. The caller said that the active ingredient is DMT which can be taken out of many different plants. Robin said she’s drinking the tea and not taking the drug. Howard said the caller was boring the shit out of him so he had to hang up. He said he was droning on about the DMT.
Howard said Robin does seem to be very happy. Howard asked if she knew that he’d talk her out of it if she told him ahead of time. Robin said she did. Howard said she once went to a witches coven and that’s the kind of wacky stuff she does. Robin said she likes to experiment with things like that. Howard said if it worked then they wouldn’t be doing it in a broken down hut. Robin said it was kind of sad. She said the guy, who calls himself Master, was a sweetheart. She said he’s a master and he’s revered there. Howard asked if she got caught up in his philosophy. She said she doesn’t speak the language so she doesn’t know what his philosophy is. She had an interpreter telling her what he was saying.
Robin said she was the only one there. She said that it’s usually a group that goes. She said they have retreats all over Peru. Robin said there’s a guy who created this retreat because this Ayahuasca thing cured him.
Robin said she was taken out to this place where she had 5 mattresses on the floor. Howard asked why they didn’t put her in a nice room. Robin said they don’t have a nice room. You live like the natives. They had chickens in the yard and things like that. Howard asked if she thought it might be dangerous. Robin said she knew it was going to be rustic. She said she didn’t know where she was going.
Howard said it looks like it was a real shithole from what he saw. Robin said she was brought to her room and they had a shamen there to wanted to read cocoa leaves for her. She was just following what the tradition was. The guy told her that she was healthy and she’d live a long life. Howard said ”Yeah, like he knows…”
Robin said she wasn’t allowed to eat all day. She said she had to stay silent too. Robin said you have to be only on water. Robin said she was told it was time for her Ayahuasca ceremony and she had to wear a lot of clothes. She said you get cold when you take it. Howard asked her what she’s doing. Robin said they have them brew this stuff on the full moon. She said they have it in a big plastic jug. Robin said they gave her some cocoa leaves to chew. She said she did that and he started talking about the medicine and it’s so reverent. She said that he was telling her it was for her spiritual revolution and things like that.
Howard said if a guy there in America did that to her in a bar she wouldn’t do it. Robin said that’s true. She said that they had some paint buckets in the room and the Master told her she was going to get sick. She said he said that was there for her to vomit in. Howard said he would have left right then. Robin said she never vomits and she figured it wouldn’t happen to her. She was told that she would get cold or hot and sweat. All of this is normal for this Ayahuasca thing.
Robin said Master prayed and read the cocoa leaves and then told her it was time to take ”la medicina.” Robin said he tried to open this stuff and it started foaming. She said it was an ugly brown liquid. Howard saw a picture of it and asked if she drank it. Robin said that this stuff was foaming like crazy and he started laughing. She said that he stopped the foaming and gave her a Dixie cup full of it. She said that he told her to drink it down really quick. She said it was the worst tasting stuff you can imagine. Robin said she gulped it down. Robin said they sit and watch you as it takes effect.
Robin said 30 minutes goes by and she felt a little queasy. She said that they said they’d give her more if she didn’t feel anything. Robin said she drank some more of it and 10 minutes later she was sick as a dog and she started throwing up so violently that she was also farting. Howard said she’s nuts. Robin said she was embarrassed from the farting. She said it just kept going and going.
Robin said you get this stuff out of you and you lay down and start having visions. Robin said that she started to see all of the misery of the world. She said she cried for about 4 hours non-stop. She said she was weeping. Howard asked how she saw the misery of the world. Robin said you see all of the pain of your own life and think about other people’s pain and see the pain of the entire world. She said she was just weeping and weeping. Robin said Master fell asleep. She said she could hear him snoring.
Howard took a call from a guy who told Robin she has to be the most gullible person on the planet. Howard said he would have been miserable. the caller said he loves that she turns her nose at French fries but she’ll drink that shit.
Robin said she did it the second night and she had to grab a bucket and go to the bathroom. She was going at both ends at the same time. Robin said she was throwing up in a bucket and going to the bathroom. She was starting to hallucinate while she had the illness. Robin said she wasn’t sure if she should close her eyes or keep them open. She said she was on a trip that night and she doesn’t even know what to say about that. She said it was very colorful and it was weird. Howard said it sounds like peyote. Robin said it is kind of like what American Indians do.
Robin said they were telling her that she should be fighting for her life in this. Robin said they give you a day break and then she was going to have to take the Ayahuasca again. She said she had to stop eating for a day. She said that they told her not to fool around and fight for this. She said she did it again and had nothing happening for like 2 or 3 hours. Robin said that she did that for an hour or two and got past the colors and had an incredible conversation with herself. She said she learned that nothing matters. She said she learned that life is great except for all that sucks. She said all of the crap they put on themselves is what sucks. Robin said she got violently sick again after that.
Howard took a call from a guy who said that she took peyote. He said it’s plain and simple. Another caller said he could get her to throw up for 4 days in a row if she wants to fly down to Atlanta. Howard said he had to take a break and digest what she just said. Howard asked Fred what he thinks. Fred said she won’t drink milk but she’ll take that shit. He said it makes no sense.
Howard took a call from a guy who said that her story is fascinating and it’s something that he supports. Howard said she learned that society is no good. That’s it. Robin said that she learned that the things we do are just for other people. She said we don’t have to do these things. Howard told Robin not to base her life on this. He said it’s nonsense. Robin said she thought a lot about Howard and it’s all of this desire to have everyone approving of you. She said it’s ridiculous. That’s what makes life hard.
