Dr. Laura headed to Sirus XM

While Howard Stern Show fans hang in limbo awaiting news on the King of All Media’s future at Sirius XM, the satellite radio company has announced the hiring of another controversial figure: Dr. Laura Schlessinger.

Schlessinger, known commonly as “Dr. Laura,” will premiere her new three hour weekday satellite radio talk show on January 3, 2011.

Schlessinger announced she would retire from her terrestrial radio show back in August after coming under fire for a rant in which she used the racial epithet known as “the n word” 11 times. She announced she would retire at the end of 2010 because: “I want to regain my first amendment rights.”

Howard Stern Show fans may be wondering if Dr. Laura’s hiring is an attempt for Sirius XM to batten down the hatches in the wake of a post-Stern Show corporate apocalypse. HSS producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate recently stated they would have an announcement regarding Stern’s contract before Thanksgiving, but was, as usual, off target.

The Howard Stern Show returns live Monday, November 29th.
